Da’an Song Zhong is said to be a naturally hybridized descendant of the “Old Song Zhong” Dancong tea trees from Caopeng Village in the Wudong region, and thus inherited the name “Song Zhong.
According to historical records, in 1954 Liang Zuwen discovered a withered tea tree in the Caopeng area of Wudong. Expert examination confirmed that the tree had died naturally in 1928 and was approximately 900 years old, dating back to the late Song Dynasty.
Da’an Song Zhong belongs to the category of seed-propagated ancient tea trees. These trees are generally estimated to be between 100 and 400 years old. As descendants of natural crossbreeding from the Old Song Zhong, they are also referred to as “Song Zhong Zi.” The tea trees grow in the tea gardens behind Taiping Temple in Da’an Village of Fengxi. It is said that the trees were originally the property of Taiping Temple and were later managed by the Huang family of Da’an Village.
The dry leaves are tightly twisted and straight, with a dark brown, glossy appearance. The aroma is elegantly floral, the liquor is bright orange-yellow, and the taste is mellow, fresh, and smooth. It offers a rich and long-lasting mountain charm.
