Fenghuang Dancong (Phoenix Oolong) is a type of oolong tea originating from the Chaozhou region. Located in northern Chaozhou, Guangdong Province, the Phoenix Mountain tea-growing region is famous for its unique natural environment and rich tea-making tradition. Phoenix Mountain is not only the highest peak in eastern Guangdong but also the ancestral home of the She people, revered as the spiritual heartland of the Chaozhou community. Tea cultivation in this region dates back over 900 years, establishing it as the birthplace of Chinese oolong tea. The area is renowned for producing Fenghuang Dancong (Phoenix Oolong), often called the “king of teas” for its extraordinary aroma and flavor.

The success of tea cultivation on Phoenix Mountain is due to its exceptional natural environment. The region experiences a warm climate with ample rainfall, mist-covered mountains year-round, and a high humidity level. The significant temperature variation between day and night, an average annual temperature of around 20°C (68°F), and annual rainfall of approximately 1800 mm create optimal growing conditions. The soil is rich, deep, and filled with organic matter and essential trace minerals, supporting the development of tea polyphenols and aromatic compounds in the tea plants. Together, these conditions create an ideal environment for producing high-quality tea.
